What You Can Do to Stay Connected During a Pandemic

#News

As we continue to be restricted from visiting family members with dementia in aged care or in hospital it is important that we find ways to stay connected.

Our helpsheet, ‘Tips for Staying Connected in a Time of Pandemic' provides practical tips you can use to maintain your family’s sense of connection.

The use of electronic devices and technology has enabled so many of us to stay connected and continue to live our lives with a sense of normalcy. One tip suggests regular video links or phone calls as an easy way to let your family member know you are thinking of them. Recording yourself talking to your family member, reading a story or a poem is also suggested and can be reused by care staff.

Some people may not have access to or understand how to use technology, so this helpsheet outlines other methods to stay connected, such as sending a letter that can be reread or creating memory boxes with photos and other items that may make the family member feel reassured.

It is important to take care of ourselves as well as those that we support in care. These simple actions and tools can help you to stay connected with your family members.
