A Day in the Life of a Dementia Consultant

#Video
Dementia Consultant Ashley Roberts invites you to share a day in the life as he discusses some of his most challenging cases and the hurdles that were overcome in trying to achieve positive outcomes for people living with dementia.

Transitioning into a care home environment can often be an emotional and stressful time but for Marty and Richard, it was one of the hardest things to come to terms with.

Marty's Story

In the first story, we hear about Marty. To go from living alone for most of his life, to suddenly living with dozens of people all around him 24/7, was described as a “real shock to the system”, and Marty was pushed to extreme limits for the first time in his adult life.

Richard's Story

In the second story, we hear about Richard who was diagnosed with dementia in his early 50s. Moving into a care home wasn’t exactly his ideal retirement plan. As things rapidly progressed, with Richard being the tallest, fastest and strongest person in the care home, his future there looked to be very short, which would have been disastrous for both him and his young family.

Exploring both the clinical and psychosocial elements, Ashley discusses how the DSA service helps to support people like Marty, Richard and those that are caring for them.
